Vista’s 91.7 Coast FM is now ICON Radio

At noon today Vista’s Classic Hits “91.7 Coast FM” (CKAY) Sechelt – Nanaimo rebranded to ICON Radio.
The station features a really good on air lineup with Brother Jake Edwards, Gerry O’Day, Jim Jackson and Barb Montgomery.
The new format features Classic hits as well as stories about the music. It is a musical journey down memory lane. With the on air lineup you will for sure get that trip down memory lane.

Hello! While I you know you are just finding your feet – but t’s about your play list with a very small number of artists in rotation over and over and over again. ….Please stop playing Having My Baby by Paul Anka!! It has been voted one of the worst songs ever written and now we have to hear it several times a week! Coast Fm was great but now with Ikon the same songs are played over and over again. No one wants to hear Cory Hart songs then or now. Now we have to hear him every day like he Canada’s best? Candy Girl? no. Sitting on the dock of the bay? That was a great song but now you’ve overplayed it and we don’t like it any more. Soul City, no. Endless Love? no. There are thousands and thousands of good oldie songs. If you had to cut our local radio station; and the hosts we loved, at least Mix it up! SMH
Finally, a radio station worth to listen to. Thank you for your broad selection of
various styles!!!!
Keep it up !
Sincerely- Joe
As above please update your play list I am really getting tired of the same songs everyday…I noticed some one else has also complained about Having my baby…everyday , there are so many songs out there why do we hear the same songs everyday?
I agree, there are MUCH better tunes than having my baby – the play list mostly sounds like the B list of all time top 40 with a few classics thrown in. A lot of stations seem to play same songs over and over – it must be a cost saving initiative but it is annoying for someone who has the radio on during the day and evening to hear the same repeats over many months time.
The biggest change I would like to hear on this station is to not jump from a 90’s tune to a 60’s tune then 70’s then 80’s, etc, and from slow elevator style music to a pop tune by Madonna. Music evokes a certain time and feeling, jumping around so fast feels all over the map and is not enjoyable. An idea might be to offer blocks of music with a theme, a decade, an artist, a genre, or something that is anchored. I think improving the music selection on this station would go a long way. I’m listening now and the music is not encouraging me to stay tuned. I do like the local ads. Haven’t heard any local news yet.
