Song of the day for January 4 2024

The song "The End" is a favorite from The Doors' self-titled debut album. Initially written about a breakup, it evolved into a longer piece through live performances. The band recorded a nearly 12-minute version for the album, released in 1967. It has been recognized on Rolling Stone and Guitar World's lists of greatest songs and guitar solos.

Today’s song is one of my favourite songs and it comes from The Doors self titled debut album. The End is the 5th and final song on side 2 of there debut record.

This version was a live performance in Toronto according to the Youtube video link.

Lead singer Jim Morrison initially wrote the lyrics about his break up with an ex-girlfriend, Mary Werbelow, but it evolved through months of performances at the Whisky a Go Go into a much longer song. The Doors recorded a nearly 12-minute version for their self-titled debut album, which was released on January 4, 1967.

“The End” was ranked at number 336 on 2010 Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The song’s guitar solo was ranked number 93 on Guitar World’s “100 Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time”.
