Song of the day for November 21, 2024

Walk This Way by Run DMC featuring Aerosmith is today’s featured song.
On this day in 1991, Aerosmith became the first band to make a guest appearance on the animated series, The Simpsons, during the third season’s “Flaming Moe’s” episode. Numerous acts have followed in their footsteps, including R.E.M., Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Phish, and the White Stripes.
The band appeared at Moe’s Tavern after Moe began serving the “Flaming Moe” drink (actually the “Flaming Homer,” renamed by Moe). Moe asked the band to come on stage and play a song, and although they were initially reluctant, he managed to entice them with the promise of free pickled eggs. Steven Tyler did not much geographic sense, yelling out “Hello Saint Louis!” before one of his bandmates reminded them they were in Springfield. They played “Walk This Way” and Moe helped out with the singing. They returned for a second night, and performed without Joey Kramer, who was in his trailer trying to stave off an amorous advance from Mrs. Krabappel, who had taken his drumsticks. Fortunately for Kramer, this spared him getting hurt, as a bitter Homer had barged into Moe’s Tavern and placed himself atop the rafters akin to the Phantom of the Opera, where he exposed the secret of the “Flaming Homer”. Homer then lost his balance and fell, where the entire band except for Kramer broke his fall. They were mentioned once more when Homer comes into the Moe’s Tavern after it has become unpopular; the gimmickry of the “Flaming Moe” having burnt out. As Homer is drinking his own drink, a “Flaming Homer” served by Moe on the house, he wonders if Aerosmith will be here tonight. Moe looks around at the squalid bar and remarks “I doubt it, Homer”.
Kramer would reappear (by himself) in “The Ned-liest Catch”, when his prior encounter with Krabappel was referenced.

Brace for new evening programming at CKNW “starting at 6pm” according to an announcement being read by Simi Sara.
* Previously the 6pm slot was a Global BC simulcast of their TV news audio called The News Hour, which they always left after 30 mins flowing a tease by Chris Gailus about what was (not) coming up next, so that they could regurgitate the 6:30 Global National TV audio of the same stories we just heard.
