Today's feature is "Riders on the Storm" by The Doors, released in 1971 and famous as Jim Morrison's last recording before his death. It celebrates The Doors' co-founder Ray Manzarek, born on this day in 1939, who later died of cancer in 2013. The song achieved top rankings on international charts.

On this day in 1939 Ray Manzarek was born. He played keyboards, with The Doors, who had the 1967 US No.1 & UK No.9 single ‘Light My Fire’ and the 1971 single ‘Riders On The Storm’. Manzarek died on 20th May 2013, he had suffered from bile duct cancer for many years. He formed the band with lead singer Jim Morrison in 1965 after a chance meeting in Venice Beach, Los Angeles.

“Riders on the Storm” was released in June 1971 by Elektra Records as the second single from the band’s sixth studio album, L.A. Woman. It is famous for being the last song that Jim Morrison recorded prior to his sudden death in Paris on July 3, 1971.

The song reached number 14 on the U.S Billboard Hot 100, number 22 on the UK Singles Chart, and number seven in the Netherlands.
