Bell cutting 4800 jobs and selling 45 radio stations
It was announced this morning that BCE. Inc is shedding 4800 jobs and selling 45 radio stations. Rumors had swirled for months that stations would be sold.
I am not sure if the job cuts include those at The Source. They announced that they were closing The Source’s head office as well as over 100 stores. The rest are being rebranded as Best Buy Express.
Citing slumping ad revenues and continuing losses in its news division, as well as regulatory decisions forcing it to sell cheaper bulk internet access to smaller competitors, Bell Canada Enterprises announced Thursday it’s planning to cut 4,800 jobs across the country.
In an open letter to employees, BCE CEO Mirko Bibic said the cuts would come at all levels.
“Over the coming weeks, we will implement significant reductions on our team at all levels of the company, reducing our workforce by approximately 4,800 positions, representing nine per cent of our workforce,” said Bibic.
“Restructuring decisions are incredibly tough for all of us because it affects the people we work with and care about,” Bibic added. “We know these decisions are hardest on those leaving Bell.”
