6/29/23 – Former multiple Emmy Award winning Seattle anchor/ reporter John Stofflet is retiring from his current position at NBC 15 WMTV Madison, WI after 18+ years. He was a reporter/ producer/ host at KING 5 from 1989-2005.  WMTV News/ Video

6/27/23 – Former KING 5 Seattle reporter/ weekend anchor Vanessa Misciagna, who moved to the E.W. Scripps Company as a national correspondent in 2021 and then returned as a PNW correspondent, announces a Scripps program is airing in Seattle. 6/26/23 – Joe Perkins is moving on from his 6 p.m. anchor position at CHEK News Victoria following his promotion to News Director in April. 6/21/23 – Long time Vancouver morning TV host Dawn Chubai has announced the launch of Live Selling School, offering resources and a niched course catering to Brand Ambassadors and Influencers. 6/17/23 – Long-time Seattle sportscaster and veteran Seattle Mariners PA anouncer Tom Hutylerwill fill in next week for vacationing news anchor Colleen O’Brien on KIRO News Radio 97.3. 6/16/23 – CTV Morning Live on CTV Vancouver is losing co-host Jason Pires, as the program will now start at 6 instead of 5:30 a.m. Co-host Keri Adams will now host solo. Pires is staying on at CTV as host of the noon show and will fill in for Adams whenever she is away.  Daily Hive

6/16/23 – CTV Vancouver Island launches a new 4:30 p.m. weekday newscast. 6/15/23 – Former Vancouver news manager Tom Walters was one of the most prominent and recognizable among the 1300 staffers laid off yesterday by BCE. Before joining the CTV National News in 2006 as its Los Angeles Bureau Chief he was a reporter in both Victoria and Vancouver and served as News Director at CTV Vancouver from 2001-06.  Isabelle Docto, Daily Hive 
6/15/23 – Former CityNews 1130 CKWX Vancouver reporter and web editor Katarina Szulc, who departed to report for CBC Edmonton last June, is moving on to freelance journalism in Mexico.  LinkedIn Announcement 
6/15/23 – Geri Mayer-Judson joins CKNW AM 980Vancouver as an on-air contributor. The 2022 BCIT Radio Arts & Entertainment graduate has most recently been a traffic reporter for the Canadian Traffic Network in Vancouver.
6/15/23 – Former CKNW AM 980 Vancouver community contributor and on air host Eric Chapman, who left in January to join Toronto-based podcast firm Obie and Ax, has announced his departure after only six months. After four years with CKNW, he joined Obie and Ax as a Senior Producer and was promoted to VP of Production in March.  Twitter Posting
6/14/23 – With hundreds of wildfires burning out of control in Canada, BCE has ignited a media firestorm of its own with the announcement today of radio station closures and mass layoffs. Two Vancouver stations, including one which has been on air for over a century, are being shuttered. There are also numerous staff layoffs at CTV Vancouver Island and several in Vancouver, including at one of the company’s FM stations. 6/13/23 – Former Seattle television News Director Jack Eddy died at his home in Gig Harbor June 5 at age 87. He earned a Communications degree at Washington State University and had been ND at KOMO-TV in the 1970s and at KSTW-TV in the 1980s.  Haven of Rest Obituary   
6/13/23 – Jasmine Bala, who announced departure from her position as a Global BC reporter last month, has joined the Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows School District as a communications specialist. 6/13/23 – Former Seattle radio executive Wheeler Morris has stepped down from his current position as Market President/ Chief Revenue Officer of Townsquare Media in Fort Collins CO. He was Vice President/ Market Manager for Hubbard Broadcasting Seattle from Apr. 2020 – Aug. 2022.  InsideRadio    
6/13/23 – CJSU-FM 89.7 Duncan has returned to its SUN FM roots, dropping its JUICE FM branding, which it has used since 2014. The format remains Classic Hits-Variety Hits.  Canadian Radio News 
6/11/23 – TV reporter/ anchor Ab Douglas (Abram Driediger) died March 21 in Kelowna at age 93. He was Parliamentary Bureau Chief and co-anchor of the National News with Peter Jennings on CTV before moving to CBC in 1967, where he was a National Reporter in Edmonton and Vancouver for 15 years.  Springfield Funeral Home Obituary
6/11/23 – Former CBC Vancouver staffer Richard Gervais passed away in Saint-Georges QC May 6 at age 76. He worked at radio and TV stations in Québec before moving to Vancouver as an announcer for Radio-Canada television for 20 years and then for Radio-Canada in Regina.  Radio-Canada Obituary

6/09/23 – The CRTC has approved an application by Total Change Ministries to change the authorized contours of low-power Spirit 88.7 CHVI-FMCampbell River. ERP will increase from 26 to 28 watts, EHAAT will decrease from 88 to 86 metres and antenna will change from non-directional to directional.  CRTC Release

6/08/23 – Riley Phillips who announced his departure from CityNews 1130 CKWX Vancouver last month joins Traveller Information System DriveBC. He’s been an airborne reporter for the station since 2018.  
6/08/23 – The Seattle Seahawks have hired Philadelphia 76ers broadcaster Kate Scott who will replace longtime Seahawks preseason commentator Curt Menefee. The television pregame and halftime presentation will once again be hosted by KING 5 sports anchor Paul Silvi, and new to the team is legendary linebacker K.J. Wright.  Seahawks Release

6/06/23 – Due to his ongoing health issues, KZOK-FM 102.5 Seattle morning host Danny Bonaducehas put his $1.6 million Seattle home up for sale. The multi-level 3-bedroom and 3-bathroom home with direct views of the Space Needle has too many stairs and rooms for him to get around safely.  TMZ News

6/04/23 – Former award-winning Global BC anchor/ reporter Deb Hope, who died May 15 is being remembered by everyone who worked with her. She developed early-onset Alzheimer’s disease which began to emerge around the time of her 2014 retirement from Global News at age 59. 6/04/23 – Former CBC staffer John (Jim) Carney passed away on April 14 at age 87. He began his career with the Corporation in 1956 as a summer-relief announcer-operator at CFPR Prince Rupert. He joined CBUT Vancouver as a stagehand in 1957, becoming a producer in 1960. He then joined CBC Toronto Public Affairs as a story editor in 1962 before returning back to Vancouver in 1986 as Commissioner-General of the United Nations Pavilion at Expo ’86. 6/03/23 – Margaret Larson, who retired as host of New Day Northwest on KING 5 Seattle in 2020, writes about her thoughts on ageism, as she experiences it firsthand. 6/01/23 – Former KIRO 7 Seattle reporter and content creator Amy Clancy has joined the City of Tacoma as Media & Communications Director.  She left KIRO in May 2020 after 32 years to join the Seattle Police Department.  City of Tacoma Release    
6/01/23 – Global BC morning anchor Paul Haysomhas announced his departure effective June 16. He is returning to CHEK-TV Victoria as its 6 p.m anchor after spending the last decade working for Global News in Vancouver and Calgary. 6/01/23 – Root Sports Seattle Mariners TV analyst Mike Blowers has explained his month-long absence. The 58 year old suffered from a case of bronchitis, mixed with a sinus infection and the flu, followed by a fall which resulted in a concussion and three stress fractures in his face. 5/31/23 – The Radio Television Digital News Association has named CTV News Vancouver as the winner of the 2023 Edward R. Murrow Awardfor Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. 5/26/23 – Alex Carrigan joins the traffic department at CityNews 1130 CKWX Vancouver on Monday. 5/26/23 – 40+ year radio and television broadcast veteran Charles Adler has announced he’s signed a deal with Crier Media to supply three podcasts and two columns per week to the digital media network. Adler, who parted ways with CKNW AM 980 Vancouver and the Corus Radio talk network in 2021, can also be read in the Winnipeg Free Press.

5/25/23 – Jeff Bollenbach has retired as General Manager of Bell Media’s radio and TV stations in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He started his career in radio in Cranbrook, before becoming News Director at several TV stations in Canada including managing the newsroom at Global BC from 2012-15.  RTDNA Backgrounder
5/25/23 – Crista Ministries Contemporary Christian Spirit 105.3 KCMS-FM Seattle and sister station Praise 106.5 KWPZ-FM Bellingham just completed record-setting on-air fundraisers. Listeners across the Pacific Northwest and Southern BC gave over 200% of the event goal at Praise and $100,000 over the goal at Spirit.  All Access Music Group
5/25/23 – BCIT Digital Journalism instructor Tessa Vikander will be starting on the digital desk at CBC Vancouver June 12. She plans to stay for the summer, and possibly beyond, and hopes to be back teaching digital journalism at BCIT in the fall.  Twitter Announcement   
5/25/23 – KNKX-FM 88.5 Seattle jazz reporter/ host Robin Lloyd is retiring after nearly 24 years. Her last day will be May 31. She started as a substitute jazz host in 1999.  KNKX News 
5/23/23 – Lady Scribe is the winning filmmaker for the next season of Crosscut Origins on KCTS 9Seattle. She will create a docuseries telling the story of Black artists, entrepreneurs and elders getting priced out of Seattle. The winner was announced Sunday at the closing ceremony of the Seattle International Film Festival. 5/23/23 – Australian-born multi-talented performer Rolf Harris, who moved to Vancouver in the 1970s, died May 10 at age 93. He hosted The Rolf Harris Show, a half-hour television series produced at BCTV (now Global BC) and shown on several other CTV affiliates in the spring and summer of 1978. In July 2014, at age 84, Harris was sentenced to five years and nine months in prison in England on twelve counts of indecent assault on four female victims during the 1970s and 1980s.  CTV News

5/22/23 –  Television station operator Tegna Inc. has terminated its merger agreement with hedge fund Standard General after several regulatory hurdles. Tegna last year agreed to be taken private by Standard General in a deal valued at $8.6 billion, including debt. The hedge fund is expected to pay $136 million in termination fees to Tegna, which operates 64 TV stations in 51 U.S. markets including KING 5 and KONG-TV Seattle.  Reuters News  Tegna Release
5/22/23 – Former Seattle radio personality Corey Dillon has signed to continue his midday show at Country The New 93Q KKBQ-FM 92.9 Houston and also adds morning show producer duties. 5/15/23 – Retired Global BC anchor/ reporter Deborra Hope has died at age 67. She retired in 2014, and was then diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, which eventually led to her living in a nursing home. 4/17/23 – CBC has paused activities on its corporate and news Twitter accounts, after the social media platform put a “government-funded media” label on its CBC account. 4/16/23 – CityNews 1130 CKWX Vancouver news anchor John Ackermann interviewed Red Robinson a number of times over the years and presents part of a 2017 interview where Red looks back on his career. Robinson passed away April 1st at age 86.  Twitter Posting
4/16/23 – A reliable source has confirmed that Tom Hutyler was recently released from his anchor position at Northwest Newsradio KNWN AM 1000/ FM 97.7 Seattle. He had been with the station (then KOMO) since 2000. Hutyler will continue in his role as PA announcer for the Seattle Mariners, a position he’s held since 1987.
4/15/23 – Andy Eide, a longtime fixture in the Seattle hockey scene who served as Seattle Kraken insider for Seattle Sports KIRO AM 710, passed away Friday. He suffered a stroke prior to the March 18 Kraken game and was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where he spent the last few weeks in ICU.  Seattle Sports News
4/14/23 – The End KNDD-FM 107.7 Seattle adds Ian Camfield to afternoon drive. He’s also heard on several other Audacy stations. Additionally, Locals Only, devoted to music originating in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest, returns with host Steven Graham starting April 16. 4/01/23 – It’s a sad day in broadcasting as iconic Vancouver rock’n’roll DJ, TV personality and ad agency owner Red Robinson passed away this morning, just two days after his 86th birthday. Red introduced rock’n’roll while still in high school at CJOR Vancouver in 1954. His broadcasting career continued at CKWX, KGW Radio/TV Portland, CFUN, KVOS-TV Bellingham and CISL. 4/01/23 – Radio broadcaster and marketer Trevor Harvey died March 4 at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital just prior to his 75th birthday. 3/31/23 – April 1 marks 100 years since the forerunner of CKWX first signed on. Arthur “Sparks” Holstead signed it on as CFDC with a used 10-watt Westinghouse Model TF transmitter from the top floor of his automotive supply business in Nanaimo. The station moved to Vancouver in 1925 and became CKWX in 1927. 3/18/23 – Retired CBC Vancouver technical staffer Mel Ebenstiner passed away on Thursday, January 19 at age 95 following multiple medical complications as a result of a broken leg. He began a 37 year career with CBC Vancouver in 1956, later becoming a maintenance technician until his retirement in 1993. 3/16/23 – Total Change Ministries has applied to relocate the transmitter site for Spirit CHVI 88.7Campbell River from the 9-1-1 tower to the water tower at Cape Mudge on Quadra Island. She left ‘NW in 2017 to join Global Okanagan as its South Okanagan reporter, based in Penticton. 2/25/23 – Former CBC Vancouver producer Vincent Eagle passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock November 16, 2022 at age 75. He worked at BCTV as a master controller. In 1988 to 1995 he co-produced and directed the CBC automobile show Drivers Seat. Over the years he produced and directed several TV productions including Double Exposure.

2/19/23 – Former CBC Vancouver staffer Tom Deacon died February 5 at age 82. After freelancing for CBC Toronto, he joined CBC Vancouver in 1984. 2/05/23  – A memorial service billed as The Last Dori Monson Show was held for a few hundred friends and family Saturday, February 4th at Canyon Hills Community Church in Bothell. Among those in attendance, broadcaster Brock Huard shared his friendship and admiration and read memories of Dori on behalf of his family. 1/21/23 – Long time Vancouver sportscaster Scott Rintoul is launching a new podcast entitled Westcoast Express Tuesday, January 31. It’s the story of the men who reinvigorated a once vibrant hockey market as told by Markus Naslund, Todd Bertuzzi, Brendan Morrison as well as other prominent Canucks teammates and figures. 1/19/23 – Long time Vancouver broadcaster Eduardo Olivares passed away on Dec. 27, 2022 at age 81. He hosted Latino Soy, a radio program designed to unite Vancouver’s growing Latin American community, which ran on CJVB AM 1470 and then for 25 years on CHKG-FM 96.1. 1/17/23 – After 41 years in TV, former KOMO 4Seattle News Director Holly Gaunt is retiring from her current position as ND at Denver7 KMGH-TV. Her last day will be April 28. She was VP/ ND at KOMO from Feb. 2007 to Dec. 2014. Gaunt was named to the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Heartland Emmy chapter’s Silver Circle in 2022 and is the recipient of multiple individual Emmy and Murrow awards for news excellence.  Denver7 News

1/15/23 – Former CHEK-TV Victoria News Director Anthony “Tony” Cox passed away in Palliative Care at Royal Jubilee Hospital on January 3 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 86. He served as ND of CHEK for 20 years and was also elected President of the Radio-Television News Directors Association of Canada. 1/02/23 – Vancouver actor Murray Brisker, who appeared in CBC-TV Vancouver productions Dr. Bundolo, The Beachcombers and Max Glick, passed away November 15 at age 88. He had a lengthy acting career included film, television and stage as well as appearances in print ads and TV commercials. Burial has taken place at Schara Tzedeck Cemetery in New Westminster.

1/01/23 – Longtime KIRO Newsradio 97.3 Seattle talk show host Dori Monson passed away suddenly at a Seattle hospital Saturday night at age 61. His radio career started in 1982 at the University of Washington, and included work at KING-TV, KING Radio and at KIRO since the early 1990s.
