A public apology

There have been times where information was given to me by sources within different companies. There have been other times where I have messaged people who work at stations and was able to hear some information. I have always kept my sources confidential. I’ve never posted anything that didn’t have merit. Such as format changes or job losses. Even when I have heard of things happening I wait until it’s known. Especially because sometimes I hear information from people that layoffs are coming at a certain date, I don’t want to reveal that information until it’s official.

However it has come to my attention that I may have crossed a line when reaching out to some media people. Sometimes I reach out to people because I have heard things have happened but I know that they personally aren’t impacted but I reach out sometimes. Especially with certain cuts recently that have happened, and knowing a lot of impacted stations are changing programming lineups to replace cut shows.

Well today I messaged someone and this person was quite upset that I was bothering them. It was this persons off time and I had bothered them. My intent was not to bother this person. It was to simply see if that person would be heard on other stations going forward or if that person would have a bigger role essentially.

Obviously I upset this person and I know I have with others also. My intent is to never bother anyone. My intent is to hear information so I can make informed decisions about things I post on here. Not to throw someone under the bus. Not to say this person told me this or that. Even if the person I talked to today confirmed that they may be on other stations I would have waited until the news is official.

No matter what I post on here, I don’t like causing issues. I also want to make sure I protect any sources I have. I know media has changed a lot which makes my job harder some days when I have to post about stations shutting down.

Regardless I do want to apologize to the person I upset today as well as any others I have upset. This was never my intention to upset you or annoy you. For that I am sorry. I will do my best to not upset people. I will wait for news to land in my inbox. I won’t try to push for news when there may not be news.

I will do my best to be better for this website going forward.
