On this day in 1997 U2 went to No.1 with ‘Discotheque’, another of the band’s No.1 singles and the opening track on their 1997 album, Pop. The entire track was leaked onto the internet in December 1996, forcing U2 to move the release date forward. The music video was set inside of a mirrorball and featured the band members dressed as members of the disco group the Village People.
