9/30/23 – Louie Tran joins the KIRO 7 Seattle newsroom. He has most recently been a weekend evening anchor/ reporter at WXII-TV 12 Winston-Salem, NC. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration at the University of Washington.  X Posting
9/30/23 – Former Vancouver broadcaster Ted Farrhas been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He was the Program Director at CKWX/ KISS FM from 1981-91 and for the past five years has been News Director and morning news anchor at CKFR AM 1150 Kelowna.  Facebook Announcement    
9/30/23 – C-FUN Vancouver DJ Red Robinson struck back after popular Vancouver Sun columnist Jack Scott infuriated radio listeners with comments in his September 2, 1964 column. Scott ran Robinson’s retort in full in his September 29 column. Ironically, Scott had defended Elvis Presley in 1956 following comments by another popular Sun columnist, Jack Wasserman.  John Mackie, The Sun   
9/29/23 – Charmaine de Silva, who recently left her position as CityNews Vancouver and Calgary Director, has joined H+K Strategies as a Senior Account Director working in Corporate Communications + Advocacy, based in Vancouver.  LinkedIn Announcement  
9/28/23 – The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has established the Roy Hennessy Achievement Award for Excellence in Broadcasting. Each year, the top student in BCIT’s Broadcast Radio program will receive a $1000 scholarship award. Hennessy started his career at CKOK Penticton in 1962, then entertained at CKLG and CKLG-FM/ CFOX-FM Vancouver from 1964-79 before moving to management positions in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario. He later returned to Vancouver as the Chairman of Shore Media Group (CHHR-FM) from 2008-10. He passed away June 7, 2022 at age 80.
9/28/23 – Doug Kirk, President of Durham Radio, owners of WAVE CIWV-FM 98.3 Vancouver, is the 2023 Hall Of Fame recipient from the Ontario Association of Broadcasters. Oshawa, ON based Durham officially launched WAVE Vancouver in August 2022.


9/27/23 – KING 5 Seattle Emmy award-winning reporter Maddie White is credited with saving a life last night while on the job. She administered Narcan to revive a man who had overdosed out on the street.  Jake Whittenberg, X Video  
9/26/23 – A new marketing campaign from KING 5Seattle features viewers who have a strong relationship with the station’s morning newscast. KING’s marketing director Jay Yovanovich says the viewers used in the testimonial campaign reached out to the station to say they love watching the morning news.  Paul Greeley, TVNewsCheck
9/25/23 – With some grant money from the Community Radio Fund of Canada’s Local Journalism Initiative, listener-supported CHLY-FM 101.7 Nanaimo is re-starting a non-profit newsroom. Lauryn Mackenzie hosts and producesMidcoast Morning. 9/23/23 – Long time Vancouver broadcaster and later video and film producer Jim Morrison passed away today at age 80. He had been treated for bladder cancer, which returned. Early in his career he was noted for his reconstruction of Vancouver Mounties baseball away games on CKWX. He later held positions at several other Vancouver stations and also worked at CBC in Calgary before becoming a video and film producer & owner/ manager of Morrison Productions. Facebook Posting  
9/23/23 – Chris Nunley has announced he has joined KTUL-TV Tulsa as its Chief Meteorologist. He left his position at KING 5 Seattle last month to “handle some difficult family health issues”.  X Posting
9/21/23 – After taking a summer break, CityNews Vancouver and Calgary Director Charmaine de Silva has announced she is leaving journalism & media. The 2007 BCIT Broadcast Journalism graduate has been with Rogers since 2018. She hasn’t yet announced her next position.  X Posting 
9/21/23 – CBC Vancouver producer Dan Getz has been appointed Associate Dean, Broadcast and Media Communications at BCIT. He has been with CBC for 20 years and was previously an instructor at BCIT’s School of Business and Media for 10 years, teaching Media Law, Writing for the Media, and Advanced Journalism.  LinkedIn Announcement  
9/21/23 – Veteran Vancouver broadcaster Rob Faibegins hosting weekend mornings on CKNW AM 980 effective October 7th. He fills the slot formerly hosted by Stirling Faux, who recently moved to p.m. drive at Wave CIWV-FM 98.3.  
9/19/23 – Vancouver and Seattle broadcaster Dave Tomlinson will join John Shorthouse in the broadcast booth as a Canucks analyst this season. Ray Ferraro is also joining the broadcast team on “select regional Canucks games throughout the season”.  Rob Williams, Daily Hive
9/19/23 – Global BC anchor/ producer Julie Nolin is undergoing chemotherapy to treat triple positive, invasive ductal carcinoma, an aggressive form of breast cancer. She is doing her best to stay working and intends to be a more active voice in the early detection of the desease.  X Announcement
9/18/23 – Jason Pires, who said goodbye to CTV Vancouver a few weeks ago after 15 years, has started his new gig joining Sonia Sunger as a host at Global News Morning. He replaces Paul Haysom, who recently moved to CHEK-TV Victoria.  Daily Hive 
9/15/23 – Long time Vancouver sportscaster John Shorthouse has signed a deal to continue TV play-by-play calling of Canucks games on Sportsnet. However his partner is yet to be announced, amid speculation that it could be Vancouver and Seattle broadcaster Dave Tomlinson.  Rob Williams, Daily Hive

9/14/23 – CBC Vancouver reporter/ host Angela Sterritt leaves this Friday after more than a decade with the Corporation. She says she will provide further details later.  X Announcement
9/12/23 – Tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, friends, family, listeners and viewers for Vancouver broadcaster Kuljeet Kaila, who died Sunday from brain cancer. She was 46.  CBC News/ Video  Dan Burritt, CBC Video
9/12/23 – Robyn Crawford has accepted the position of Assistant News Director at CityNews 1130 CKWX Vancouver. The 2017 BCIT Broadcast Journalism graduate has been a producer, anchor and news manager there since March 2021.  X Posting
9/11/23 – The Georgia Straight has released its 2023 Best of Vancouver list. 9/10/23 – Well known Vancouver broadcaster Kuljeet Kaila passed away this morning at Surrey Memorial Hospital after undergoing treatment for an aggressive form of brain cancer. She had worked at a number of local radio and TV stations since 1998 and most recently had been a reporter and anchor with CBC Vancouver.  Connie Thiessen, Broadcast Dialogue  Daily Hive
9/10/23 – The CRTC has approved an application by Four Senses Entertainment Inc. to operate a new commercial FM radio station in Squamish. It will operate at 99.7 MHz with a maximum ERP of 5,000 watts at -349.9 metres EHAAT with a album-oriented alternative and rock format.  CRTC Release 
9/10/23 – KOMO-TV Seattle signed on for the first time on December 10, 1953, now approaching its 70th anniversary. For the rest of this year KOMO will be producing stories that take viewers back in time to revisit the people and events that have defined the station.  Eric Johnson, KOMO News/ Video
9/10/23 – Former Canadian blind Paralympic Games swimmer Donovan Tildesley, who was unfortunately kicked off a Virgin Voyages Caribbean cruise last November, has now been contracted to Virgin as an accessibility consultant. In late August, he was invited on board Virgin Voyages 50th anniversary VIP cruise, where he met Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson. 9/10/23 – CBC Radio Vancouver producer Vivian Luk is moving from CBC Early Edition to CBC What on Earth.  X Posting 
9/08/23 – Legislative Bureau Chief Bhinder Sajan, who recently left her position at CTV Vancouver is now the Deputy Director of Communications at the Office of the Premier of British Columbia. She had been in the position at CTV since 2015. 
9/08/23 – The Ratings Experts at Research Director, Inc. provide exclusive August ’23 PPM analysis for Seattle-Tacoma and four other radio markets.  Radio Ratings Roundup    
9/07/23 – Country The Wolf KKWF-FM 100.7continues its lead in the Nielsen Seattle-Tacoma August 2023 PPM 6+ ratings with a 7.9 share. KUOW-FM 94.9 moves up to second with 6.8. Classic Hits The Jet KJEB-FM 95.7 is third with a 5.9 share.  Radio Online
9/07/23 – Former Vancouver broadcaster Roger Peterson has joined CTV News Channel as a weekend anchor. He was a news anchor at CityNews Vancouver from 2004-06 before departing for Toronto.   
9/07/23 – JACK CHTT-FM 103.1 Victoria morning host Darren Worts adds 6 – 8 p.m. weeknights on SONiC CKKS-FM 107.5 Chilliwack.
9/07/23 – Robert Buffum joins CTV Vancouver as a Legislative Reporter based in Victoria effective September 25. He’s been a reporter for CTV Vancouver Island since 2014.  
9/06/23 – Former Vancouver news personality Scott Hurst has left his current position at CP24 Toronto, where he has worked since April 2022. He was an anchor reporter for CTV Vancouver for 9-1/5 years before departing for Toronto last year. Hurst becomes a correspondent for CTV National News.  X Posting 
9/05/23 – CTV Morning Live weathercaster and co-host Marke Driesschen on CTV Vancouver returns. He has been off for four months recovering from heart valve replacement surgery in early May.  X Posting
9/02/23 – The Sound KSWD-FM 94.1 Seattle showed impressive growth from June to July moving  25-54 from 12th-ranked to sixth. The Sound’s music is primarily 80s with the mix spanning from the occasional 60s-70s track to more recent hits.  InsideRadio
9/02/23 – Veteran Vancouver sportscasters Don Taylor and Rick Dhaliwal return to CHEK-TVVictoria Tuesday after a short holiday. Donnie and Dhali will also appear regularly on Sportsnet 650CISL during this Vancouver Canucks season.  X Posting
