Could there be format changes brewing in Ottawa?

Recently My Broadcasting Corporation got approval to take over ownership of 3 stations from Rogers in Tillsonburg and Smiths Falls, Ontario CKOT-FM and CJDL-FM Tillsonburg as well as CJET-FM Smiths Falls.

CJET is currently operating as Jack FM but once MBC takes over they will most likely change the name and possibly the format. I am personally hoping that one of the three stations they take over will become FREQ similar to the one in Peterborough.

If Jack flips and becomes a different format, then that leaves BOOM 99.7 as the only Jack like station in Ottawa. If Jack becomes FREQ, I could see Corus flipping Jump Radio to Edge, similar to the Calgary station. It would become a classic alternative station to try to compete with FREQ. Even if Jack does not turn into FREQ and it launches as a MYFM or Oldies or Giant or one of the other brands they have, I could still see changes to Jump happening. Jump has declined in ratings and has recently laid off all local hosts. It would be the perfect time to introduce a new format to that station.

My assumption is all changes will happen in the month of August leading up to the 2 long weekends (Civic and Labor Day)

Lets see what happens in the Nations Capital.

  1. 92.3 Jack FM in Smiths Falls officially became Wow FM as of August 1st playing some type of classic pop hits from the 1980s to the 2000s with some rock mixed in.

    1. Aside from playing 80’s Hits and More, with a classic hits format, 92.3 WOW FM plays a wide range of mixed music like rock, pop, top 40, soft/hot adult contemporary,
r&b, dance, etc. from the mid to late 1960’s through to the early 2000’s.

Wow FM sounds like a pretty decent radio station!
