4/24/21 - Dal Richards’ widow, Muriel Honey, gave Vancouver Sun journalist John Mackie a poster the local big band legend had received when he had a radio show at AM 600 (CKBD) Vancouver. 4/18/21 - After 21 years at KING 5 and sister station KONG-TV Seattle, President and GM Jim Rose is leaving for what he has described as a new role outside of owner, Tegna. He first joined the station as National Sales Manager at KONG, and moved his way up before becoming GM in 2016. His last day will be May 3rd. 4/16/21 - Late Vancouver news reporter J.J. Richards was a long-time advocate and supporter of Variety – the Children’s Charity. The Richards family is working with Variety to determine the best way to keep their father’s legacy going. J.J. was the News Director at CFUN Vancouver during most of the 1980's and '90s. 4/08/21 - The Vancouver Whitecaps FC will not be moving to all-sports radio Sportsnet 650 CISL, as had been speculated. Instead, the team has signed a new two-year broadcast deal with Corus Entertainment. Play-by-play matches, including one-hour pre- and post-match shows, are moving to Vancouver’s all-traffic station, CHMJ AM 730. 4/08/21  - After over a month off air, KRPA AM 1110 Oak Harbor is back on today. The station has a construction permit to operate with 9 kW day and 2.5 kW night, up from .5 kW daytime only, but the FCC has not released information on whether it is operating at the new higher power.  FCC Data

He was the Late Daddy G on CFUN Vancouver in the early 1960s before moving to Montreal in 1963 as Buddy G on CKGM AM 980. 3/31/21 - A man was arrested and is facing charges after a KOMO Seattle news vehicle was stolen Monday evening while one of the station's photojournalists was working inside the car. The unidentified suspect was taken into custody shortly after the vehicle theft. 3/27/21 - HITS 106.1 KBKS-FM Seattle morning host Jubal Fresh is suing former employer Hubbard Radio for wrongful termination. Fresh alleges that Hubbard sent him a letter in January 2020 stating that the company had grounds to terminate his employment for cause. 3/27/21 - Former Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive member Randy Bachman says his CBC program Vinyl Tap is being cancelled. The two-hour program has aired weekends on CBC Radio One since 2005. 3/25/21 - Ethan Faber has announced on his LinkedIn profile that he is now News Director at CTV News Vancouver. He's been Assistant News Director & Managing Editor since 2004. He joined CTV in 1997 as an on-air reporter and is a winner of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAJ) Gold Medal for television reporting, the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) Award and the Jack Webster Fellowship. He replaces Les Staff, who left the position in January.

3/22/21 - Legendary Vancouver broadcaster Red Robinson has hosted the RPM Lunch (Radio Performers Membership) for past and present radio hosts twice-yearly for two decades, which has been curtailed since the start of the pandemic last year. Former CKWX announcer turned professional photographer Dave Roughan took a series of photos at the lunch April 14, 2015. It was held in memory of radio host Fred Latremouille, who had passed away a month earlier on March 5 at age 69. The montage can be viewed here at Roughan's YouTube channel.

3/18/21 - Further to the CP modification for KZIZ (3/17 below), the original CP was granted for the former 1210 night transmitter location east of Auburn. The modification just granted calls for duplexing the existing KMIA Towers on the west side of Auburn. The station's owners recently purchased the property from the Garre family who started the Auburn station as KASY back in the late '50s. Bustos Media, current owner of KMIA, is now leasing the property from the owners of KZIZ.

3/15/21 - Rogers Communications has signed a deal to buy Shaw Communications in a transaction valued at $26 billion, but is likely to face stiff regulatory scrutiny. The deal is subject to approvals from Canadian regulators and is expected to close in the first half of 2022. 3/13/21 - Seattle market KMIA AM 1210 Auburn-Federal Way has returned to the air. The station went silent last April, "Due to health considerations and economic conditions." A remain silent extension was granted by the FCC on November 25th last year and was set to expire March 24th. Meanwhile, KRPA AM 1110 Oak Harbor has been off air for several days.

2/09/21 - Bell Media has pulled the plug on its sports talk programming on CKST AM 1040 Vancouver. The station is currently running music with announcements that a new format is coming at 7:00 a.m. Friday. According to an internal email sent to staff from Bell management and obtained by Postmedia, the station will re-launch Friday under the “Funny” format. CKST was also the radio broadcast partner of both the Canadian Football League’s B.C. 2/07/21 - KIRO-TV Seattle announced this morning on its Facebook page that it is back on AT&T and DIRECTV.  KIRO and 13 other Cox Media Group stations were pulled off the service last Tuesday due to a carriage dispute. The two sides have signed a new multiyear agreement.

1/05/21 - An obituary has been published for legendary KJR and KOL Seattle broadcaster and concert promoter Dick Curtis, who died December 26 in Olympia at age 87. KING 5 Home Team Harvest

1/04/21 - The 20th year of the KING 5 Seattle annual Home Team Harvest food drive raised more meals for Northwest Harvest than ever before. Funds and donations were collected from mid-October through the end of 2020. A total of 23,552,116 meals were raised, nearly tripling the number of meals raised in 2019.  KING 5 News

1/02/21- Retired CTV then CBC-TV Vancouver Supervising Technician Erv Wegwitz passed away December 13 at age 75 from complications following lung surgery. He retired from CBC in 2002.  Arbor Memorial Obituary
