1/29/20 - The FCC has granted a Construction Permit to New Age Media Ltd. for KRPA AM 1110 Oak Harbor. The permit authorizes the addition of one tower, change of daytime pattern, and the addition of a new night pattern. Daytime power will increase from 500 watts to 9 kW and nighttime power will be 2.5 kW with different directional constants day and night. FCC Data

KIRO Radio 97.3 Seattle

1/27/20 - KIRO Radio 97.3 Seattle has announced changes to its weekday lineup. The Tom and Curley Show, which has aired weekday mornings, moves to 3 to 7 p.m. and a new show The Gee and Ursula Show featuring Gee Scott and Ursula Reutin will debut from 9 a.m. to noon effective Wednesday, January 29. 1/26/20 - Vancouver broadcaster/ producer George Orr presents "Chasing The Dream" The real story behind Vancouver's 2010 Olympic Games. The documentary revisits the development of the largest single project in peacetime Canada, through exclusive interviews with the decision-makers. 1/25/20 - One year after launching Candy, Mike & Todd in afternoons, Seattle market KIRO Radio KIRO-FM 97.3 has cancelled the program and prepares to launch a new afternoon show. Candy Harper states that she exited the station on January 15. Co-host Mike Lewis wrote that he will be staying at KIRO, but unsure in what role. 1/24/20 - Former Vancouver broadcasters Ruby and Alex Carr hosted their last show on the Edge CFNY-FM 102.1 Toronto on Wednesday after just one year. Ian Hanomansing

1/23/20 - Vancouver-based CBC National news anchor Ian Hanomansing and former CBC Vancouver News at 6 anchor Andrew Chang have survived the dropping of the four-anchor format on the network's flagship TV newscast The National. Chang will now co-host the broadcast Monday to Thursday from Toronto with Adrienne Arsenault, while Hanomansing will host Friday and Sunday from Vancouver. KUOW-FM Seattle

1/22/20 - KUOW-FM 94.9 Seattle partners with other public radio stations and BBC to present a new collaborative reporting project on the young Latino vote in 2020. The year-long project Every 30 Seconds is being funded by a $300,000 grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting  and will include reports airing on BBC's The World as well as digital components. Tommy Wolski

1/20/20 - Former Vancouver jockey, columnist and broadcaster Tommy Wolski died from a heart attack today in Naples, Florida. He is believed to have been in his late 70s. Wolski was a prominent rider at Hastings Park Racecourse in Vancouver during the 1970s and ’80s, later writing his Hoss Talk column in The Province from 1995 to 2015. He hosted Horse Talk on CJOR in the '70s, had a horse racing show on CKO-FM in the 1980s and hosted Sport of Kings on cable and CKVU-TV in the 1990s. Wolski was inducted into the B.C. 1/19/20 - Ronnie Stanton, who was named PD of Corus Vancouver FM stations in December, has been given the expanded role of lead programmer for all Corus FM stations in Alberta and B.C. Digital TV

1/18/20 - There have been a number of changes and adds to Seattle area TV subchannels. KYMU has added Newsnet on 6.3 in SD 480i, Retro TV on 6.4 SD 480i, and Heartland on 6.5 SD 480i; KSTW adds Circle on 11.5 SD 480i; KONG adds This TV 16.3 SD 480i. Meanwhile, KZJO continues to operate with low power on its new RF channel 36 until antenna work is completed on its Capitol Hill tower, expected in mid April.

1/16/20 - Gordon Lyall died peacefully at home on December 26 at age 91. The Vancouver lawyer and entrepreneur was part of the group that started up CKVU-TV (now branded as Citytv) in 1976. Peter Kjellbotn

1/16/20 - Peter “Cam” Kjellbotn died in Edmonton December 30 at age 69. He started his television career at BCTV (now Global BC) Vancouver before moving to Edmonton in 1974 for the launch of ITV (now Global Edmonton). Kjellbotn retired in 2013 after 38-1/2 years with the station in various roles. Edmonton Journal Obituary
Kirk LaPointe

1/16/20 - Veteran Vancouver journalist Kirk LaPointe has been appointed publisher of Business in Vancouver Media Group, while retaining his roles as editor-in-chief of Business in Vancouver and parent company Glacier Media. He has previously served as CBC Ombudsman, managing editor of The Vancouver Sun and has been a host on CBC Newsworld and the now defunct Roundhouse Radio CIRH-FM 98.3.

1/14/20 - Long-time former Seattle PD Mike Preston has been released from his position as Senior Vice President of Programming for the iHeartMedia Baltimore cluster, a position he has held since December 2017.
