QR Calgary withdraws application for CFGQ simulcast

1 min read

Word has come out that Corus has withdrawn the application for the simulcast of QR Calgary on the former Q107 frequency. The simulcast had been running since early January 2023 without ever receiving proper permission from the CRTC.

I personally have heard talk of Q107 coming back to Calgary, but my guess is they will try to do a format that can be programmed relatively cheap and easy. Most people will see Q107 is back and assume that it will have a full lineup of hosts. A format similar but differently named could have some out of market shows. Or no shows and it might do ok. If they are looking to bring the Rock based format back, they could do Big FM.

Let’s see what Corus does but my guess is something will happen sooner rather than later. Maybe the launch the new format before the Canada Day long weekend, so they can run the whole weekend with just music to tease the format.
