Song of the day for December 4, 2023
Today’s song is from the band Deep Purple. The song of course would be Smoke on the Water. The reason I chose this song, is because it was written because on December 4 1971, Switzerland’s Montreux Casino burnt to the ground during a Frank Zappa concert. The incident was immortalized by this song which also contains one of the most recognizable guitar riffs in Rock history.
In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine placed “Smoke on the Water” number 434 on its list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time”. Total Guitar magazine ranked the song’s riff number 4 on its “Greatest Guitar Riffs Ever” list, and in March 2005, Q magazine placed it at number 12 in its list of the 100 greatest guitar tracks.
